Dap-tone, the retro-soul label behind Sharon Jones, as well as Amy Winehouse's chart-topping smashes, was recently burglarized. Thieves made off with a large amount of gear and office equipment, according to label honcho/Dap-Kings bassist Gabriel Roth. The Brooklyn Vegan blog has a list of the stolen equipment here.
Now, this was very unfortunate, indeed. However, running a recording studio--one featured on MTV no less--without insurance, in a sketchy Brooklyn neighborhood is, without a doubt, stupidity of the highest order.
Sorry, guys. Hope you get your gear back. And we're glad that, thankfully, no one got hurt.
