What We’re Listening To
THE ACTIONRolled Gold (Reaction) EMERSON LAKE & PALMERTrilogy (Atlantic) THE MOMMYHEADS self-titled (DGC) MEL TORMÉSwings Shubert Alley (Verve) TV ON THE RADIODesparate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes (Touch and Go)
not endorsements, just what i happen to be listening to:
podcasts of several recent episodes of "the best show on wfmu" hold steady, "stay positive" my morning jacket, "evil urges" lee hazlewood and ann margaret, "the cowboy and the lady"
what's the story on the mommyheads? never heard em.
The Mommyheads were a SF-via-NYC quartet, frequently compared to XTC, who put out a couple of indie albums throughout the '90s. In '98 they released the self-titled disc--kinda like a cross btwn Jellyfish and Neil Finn, IMO--on DGC, but the band was dropped from the label before it came out, so it died an anonymous death. They broke up afterwards. (Jeff Palmer, the bass player on this album, joined Sunny Day Real Estate 2.0 when Nate Mendel wouldn't leave the Foo Fighters.) There's audio here: http://www.amazon.com/Mommyheads/dp/B000003TCH/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1215697744&sr=8-1
Supposedly, they've just reunited and a new album is due this year.
