Fountains of Wayne - "This Better Be Good"
The demise of the New Jersey store from which they took their name—featured
in the ‘Another Toothpick’ episode of The Sopranos—was probably an omen, as the
band outlasted its namesake by only a couple of years. And when you add the
desultory vibe of what turned out to be their final album, 2011's Sky Full of Holes (the
recording of which singer/guitarist Chris Collingwood referred to when asked
about a possible reunion as “staggering to think of everything that would have
to happen for me to want to repeat that experience”), then it’s plain to see
how referring to FoW in past tense is not just accurate but quite inevitable.
